This data layer is an element of the Oregon GIS Framework. The Structural Fire Protection Districts represent the boundaries of urban and rural structural fire districts. The layer was created cooperatively with the Oregon State Fire Marshal's office. The layer contains the Urban and Rural Fire Protection District boundary lines as well as attribute information (which is updated on a quarterly basis by the SFM office). Construction of the layer started prior to 2000 using line work collected with heads-up digitizing of Rural Fire Protection District boundaries from hard copy maps provided by the RFPDs and from ODF Protection Maps. In 2001 an effort was made to contact urban and rural fire districts whose boundaries were not included in the first digitizing effort. The boundaries for those districts that responded were incorporated into the protection district layer (not all districts responded so not all districts are represented in the theme). The name of the theme was changed from Rural to Structural to make it more representative of the data.
