<DIV STYLE="text-align:Left;"><DIV><DIV><P><SPAN>The conifer threat map depicts conifer encroachment phases alongside information about understory conditions across rangelands in southeastern Oregon for the years 2020-2022. Conifer encroachment phases were approximated using the Tree Dominance Index (TDI) that depicts the relative dominance of trees compared to all perennial vegetation. TDI was calculated as: Tree cover/(Tree cover + Shrub cover + Perennial forb & grass cover), with values ranging 0-1 and cutoffs between phases set based on expert map review. Phases I and 2 were separated into categories with and without annual grass risk based on the ratio of Annual forb & grass cover to Perennial forb & grass cover, where areas with a ratio less than or equal to 0.333 are considered to have annual grass risk (perennial cover less than 3x annual cover). Vegetation cover maps were derived from the Rangeland Analysis Platform, v3 (https://rangelands.app/). Hardwood trees and riparian areas were separated to identify non-conifer trees using the National Land Cover Database. </SPAN></P><P><SPAN /></P></DIV></DIV></DIV> |
