Service Description: This polygon coverage is a subset of the larger data set 'GLO Historical Wet Prairie Vegetation of the Willamette Valley, Oregon, 1851-1910'. The 'Select by Attribute' tool was used to with the clause: Where 'VEGTEXT' is equal to 'Seasonally wet prairie May have scattering trees, most with distances > 100 links' This dataset and the larger dataset from which it was extracted, depicts historical vegetation in the Willamette Valley, Oregon, and portions of the Columbia River floodplain in Oregon. It is based on land survey data recorded by General Land Office (GLO) surveyors between 1851 and 1910, including township and section line data. Areas described in the original GLO survey descriptions as 'prairie', were classified as 'wet prairie' base on present day NRCS hydric soil mapping.

Areas described in the original GLO survey descriptions as 'prairie', were classified as 'wet prairie' base on present day NRCS hydric soil mapping.
Subject: The Historic Wet Prairie coverage was extracted from the larger historic vegetation mapping to quantify the historic extent and location of wet prairie at the time of survey. Only 2% of this wetland type is estimated to remain from the original extent. In most cases, wet prairie vegetation present at the time of survey is a close approximation of vegetation prior to widespread changes brought by Euro-american settlement.
